The Banking Association of South Africa (BASA), an SBN member since 2016 and active in key working groups, has supported major initiatives including the Principles for Managing Environmental and Social Risks (2015) and the JSE Green Segment Listing Requirements (2017).

The Central Bank of Sri Lanka (CBSL), an SBN member since 2016, launched the Sri Lanka Sustainable Finance Roadmap in 2019 and is progressing in implementation alongside the Sustainable Banking Principles introduced in 2018.

The Thai Bankers’ Association (TBA), an SBN member since 2012, is in the early stages of developing a national sustainable finance framework through sector awareness, stakeholder engagement, and research on national priorities.

The Banking Regulation and Supervision Agency (BRSA), an SBN member since 2015, supports sustainable finance through the Sustainability Guidelines for the Banking Sector issued by the Banks Association of Turkey in 2014.

The State Bank of Vietnam and the Ministry of Natural Resources & Environment, both SBN members since 2012, are part of the Measurement Working Group and have issued key policies promoting green credit and environmental risk management since 2015.

The Mongolian Central Bank (founding member since 2012) and Mongolian Bankers’ Association (since 2013) are active in all major SBN working groups and have issued key policies like the Sustainable Finance Principles and sector-specific guidelines since 2014.

This report is SBFN’s first Global Progress Report. The report presents a systematic view of progress toward sustainable finance among the emerging economies represented by SBFN. It is based on a unique measurement framework to assess sustainable finance initiatives across emerging markets.
